Medical Education

Medical Education Cell (MEC) at Maharajas Institute of Medical Sciences started with the aim to keep faculty members and students abreast with latest trends in teaching methodologies and advancements in clinical and basic sciences.

It was created to accomplish requirements of teacher and also learners with respect to medical education. In addition, support and strengthen research activity by imparting desired knowledge on research methodology and ethics to Residents and faculty.

Scope of medical education cell at MIMS, Vizianagaram extends from informative and innovative curriculum for medical students to make them into good clinicians and research physicians and keeping them updated with latest trends in field of medicine.

Goals

• To promote and conduct activities of Continuing Medical Education (C.M.E.)
• To conduct training of faculty in methodologies of Medical education, curriculum designing, communication skills, teaching, learning, assessment, evaluation & scientific writing.
• To support in the field of research methodology.
• To oversee the conduct of AETCOM classes and AITO
• To conduct common PG academics.
• To train medical faculty with latest proceedings and updates from National Medical Commission.
• To conduct Regular orientation programs for Undergraduates, Postgraduates, Interns and faculty

38. Orientation and formal inauguration of MENTOR – MENTEE program for Phase I students was conducted on 29/01/2024. Phase I students and Mentors were given orientation by Dr Jyothi Padmaja HOD Microbiology. Students were allotted to mentors (Phase I faculty)
39. Foundation course for Phase 2 students was conducted on 12/2/24 and 13/2/24 covering topics like working in health care team, communication skills, bedside manners, stress and time management, mentoring and ethics and etiquette.
40. CISP III workshop for faculty was conducted on 2-4-24 and 3-4-24 under the aegis of Regional Centre AMC. 29 participants were trained. Dr Rajalakshmi from RCMET was the NMC observer.
41. A formal orientation meeting with Phase II students and all Phase II Mentors was conducted on 19/4/24. Dr Kanchana Professor of Pathology gave orientation to students and mentors and students were allotted to Mentors.
42. Zonal CME for Postgraduates in Radiology was conducted at MIMS on 28-04-2024
43. Zonal CME for Postgraduates in ENT was conducted at MIMS on 05-05-2024.
44. World Hypertension Day – “Symposium on Hypertension” was conducted on 30-5-24
45. Guest lecture on Research publications – Tips and Tricks was taken by Dr Rajesh Botcha, Consultant musculoskeletal Radiologist, Royal OrthopaedicHospital,Birmingham, UK. On 19-6-24.
46. A 3 day BCME workshop for faculty as part of FDP was conducted under the aegis of RCMET – AMC on 3rd,4th and 5th of July 2024. Dr I Vani was the NMC observer for the workshop.30 faculty for all the departments including Assistant professors and Associate professors were
    trained.
47. Guest Lecture was delivered on 12-08-2024 by Dr. RAJESH BOTCHU Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist Royal Orthopedic Hospital Birmingham UK on the topic – “BONE TUMOR IMAGING”
48. Dean, Medical Superintendent , MEU members and Curriculum committee members attended a Live interactive session conducted by NMC-UGMEB on 2-09-2024 to discuss the changes brought by NMC.
49. Orientation program to phase II 2023 batch was conducted from 24-09-2024 to 01-10-2024
50. Foundation course for first MBBS 2024-25 Batch was conducted from 17-10-24 to24-10-24.
51. Zonal CME for Postgraduates in Microbiology was conducted on 10-11-24 on the topic of RNTCP TO NTEP – The Transition and Hope .2 credit hours were awarded by APMC.
52. World Anti Microbiological –Resistance Awareness Week was organized from 18-11-24 to 24-11-24 as per the guidelines of NMC and MHFW.
53. A 3-day BCME workshop for faculty as part of FDP was conducted under the aegis of RCMET – AMC on 19th, 20th ,21 of November 2024. Dr.A.S.VEERAMANI KARTHEEK, AssistantProfessor , Department of GeneralMedicine, Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnamwas the NMC observer for the workshop.30 faculty for all the departments including Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant professors were trained.
54. Research Orientation Program for 2023 batch phase II MBBS was conducted on 18-12-2024
55. On 18-12-2024 Guest Lecture was conducted as a part of MOU with MANASAS Trust on the topic “Application of AI in Medical Education by Dr.P.Srinivas Rao, Associate Professor in dept of Data Engineering MVGR VZM”.
56. Mentor Mentee Program was initiated for Phase I MBBS (2024 batch) students with an orientation session and allotment of mentors on 19-12-2024
57. Second Mentor Mentee Program with interaction with the mentors , for Phase I MBBS (2024 batch) students was conducted on 30-01-2025
58. Orientation program followed by Elective postings for Phase III part I students of 2021 batch was conducted from 30-01-2025 to 13-02-2025 in Block I.
59. A 2 Day Hands on workshop on “AI Tools in teaching” was conducted for faculty of MIMS at MVGRCollege of Engineering (as a part of MOU) on 11-02-25 & 14-02-25
60. Elective postings for Phase III part 1 students of 2021 batch in Block II were conducted from 21-2-25 till 07 -03-2025.
61. PG Orientation Programme for Postgraduates of 2024 Batch was conducted from 24-02-2025 to 28-02-2025.
62. AHA-BLS AND ACLS for PG final year studentswas conducted batch wise on the following dates 3/02/24 to 5/02/24, 19/02/25 to 25/02/25, and 17/02/25 to 19/03/25
63. On the occasion of World Hearing Day 2025 on 03-03-25 a lecture was organized by ENT department for all the faculty on “Hearing loss in the current scenario: Challenges and solutions”. Dr Rajesh B,Assistant Professor, Department of ENT delivered the Keynote address
64. Interns Orientation Program for 2020 Batch was conducted from 03-03-2025- to 07-03-2025.
65. All the faculty, students and MEU members attended the Live webinar on “Expansion of Medical Education” and Hon’able Prime Minister’s address on 05-03-2025.
66. On 06-03-2025 on the occasion of International Women’s Day, A Guest Lecture was taken by– Dr. V DEEPAK, MD on the topic “Influence of lifestyle on Pregnancy & Role of maternal marks”
67. Third Mentor Mentee Program with interaction with the mentors, for Phase I MBBS (2024 batch) students was conducted on 20-03-2025 to discuss about the upcoming 2nd internal assessment.
68. MEU conducted a 2-hour In-House Faculty Development Programme on topic- Question paper setting and item analysis on 15-04-2025. Session was led by Dr Neelina and Dr Prabhakar Varma.42 faculty from across all departments and designations attended the
    program
69. A Research Orientation Program was conducted for Phase-II MBBS students (2023-24 Batch) for 3 hours / day on 04-04-25,11-04-2025,25-04-2025.
70. Basic Science Postings for all the Post Graduates of 2024-25 Batch are being conducted from 01-04-2025 to 26-05-2025
71. A 2-hour in-house 1 stFaculty Development Program for Senior Residents was conducted 13-05-2025 on Domains of Learning & Lesson Plan. Resource faculty were Dr R Havilah Twinkle and Dr Prabhakar Varma. A total of 16 SRs attended to this interactive hands-on workshop.
    Post session certificates were given to all participants
72. Research methodology work shop was conducted for new Post graduates 2025 batch from 13-5-25 to 17-5-25.
73. An interactive workshop on Sensitization program on Medical Education Technologies was conducted for 3 days Batch wise for the Ist year Post graduates (2025 batch)on 20th, 21st and 22nd of May 2025. Topics included Domains of learning, Teaching methods in SGT, Lesson
    plan, Assessment, Bed side teaching and OSCE and OSPE.
74. MBBS Phase II mentor – mentee meeting was conducted on 10-6-2025.
75. As part of strengthening faculty training a one day in house 2 ndFaculty Development program was conducted on 11-6-2025 on Portfolio and Logbook, Different formative assessment methods like muddiest point, Clickers, OMPS, DOAPS, PBL, OSCE, OSPE, OMP, SNAAPS, Mini
    CEX. Sessions were conducted by Dr R Havilah Twinkle and Dr Mouleeswara Kumar Tamma. 60 faculty from across all departments and designations attended the program
76. A guest lecture was organized for all Faculty, Post graduates and Interns on 19-6-25. Topic was “Robotics in Oncosurgery” – by Dr V Kartik Chandra, Chief Surgical Oncologist and Robotic Surgeon, Medicover Cancer Institute, Visakhapatnam.
77. CISP III workshop was conducted by MIMS, MEU under the aegis of NMC regional center, AMC on 23-7-25 and 24-7-25.A total of 29 participants attended.Dr Rajalakshmi from RCMET was the NMC observer.
78. As part of strengthening faculty training a one day in house 3rd Faculty Development Interactive workshop was conducted on 29-8-2025 on the topic “Giving and Receiving FEEDBACK”. Dr I Jyothi Padmaja and Dr PVN Kanchana were the resource faculty. A total of
    67 faculty members attended the session.
